In my previous post I congratulated myself on finding a cheap apartment in a fantastic location in Milan (for that was the city in the images).
However I was not there by accident. I chose it because it was near to the first meeting of my trip to work for three days with the Italian national cyclists group FIAB.
Regular readers of this blog will know I have a soft spot for a certain Italian bike brand with a legendary history and a unique colour scheme. So I was delighted when our colleagues invited us to start with the Milan branch of Bianchi Cafe and Cycles, younger sister to the branch in Stockholm.
Even better news was when we found out that Bianchi has an arrangement with the Italian branch of broadcaster Eurosport and there is actually a commentary studio within the cafe where the commentators come on the day of major races to speak over the live feed and entertain the cycling mad customers.
One block from my apartment – I mean to would be rude not to go back, wouldn’t it?
It could become my unofficial base in Milan if I spent more time there, surrounded by everything I might need on a Saturday afternoon during the Tour de France. I could even work on my Italian.

That looks like a great spot to hang out and keep an eye on the Tour. Lucky you.

I always think Bianchi’s are a tad overpriced and hyped up

I guess because my father’s generation venerated Coppi and those like him the brand has stood up well, and I guess I love the colour. That doesn’t say anything about their current performance as bikes, but they also have very cool cafes!
