E-bike photo-gallery from the ISPOBike trade cycle show in Munich.

StromerIt is only since starting work for ECF that I have realised the fixation on electrically assisted bikes in the German bike industry

E-bikes or pedelecs got a hold in the Netherlands first but it is the German industry that has embraced it with most vigour. This has brought nearly 500,000 bikes per year of very high value on to the market, a huge shot in the arm for the industry which has really struggled to recover from the end of the mountain bike boom in the 1990s – at one time mountain bikes added nearly 3 million bikes per year to sales making it Europe’s biggest bike market.

But now every company has to have an E-bike and at ISPOBike they dedicated a huge amount of space and energy to them. It’s a bit like the madness at the start of full suspension mountain bikes – who knows which of these designs will be the long term winner.

In the meantime pick your winner – where do you want your battery, your drive, what sort of frame do you suggest? Its all there.
