Many people must have said it, but due to his celebrity JFK is attributed with the cycling quote “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike”.
After a few weeks off the bike due to illness the symbolism of starting again on New Year’s Day means I will steal the quote for my purposes today.
It was gorgeous, with winter sun driving away early fog to leave blue skies above the open fields and sharp contrasts in the woods and ponds of the valleys. The familiar seemed so fresh, I thoroughly enjoyed my self on a circular tour around small roads and connecting tracks.
If the 2020s are to be the decade of the bicycle I have made my own small contribution on day 1.
I hope there be many more like this.

that makes 2 of us Kevin – I was also out in the sunshine and managed 40 miles. It was a great start, Thinking about it is a bot scary as I suddenly realise by the time this decade has done I will be nearly 80!!!

Well I managed to get over to where I’d left the car after the New Years Eve party, burning off the hangover in the process. That was enough effort for one day!
